The City of Coppell, in partnership with DiversityWealth LLC, will offer a version of the popular Allies in Community® program to the City’s youth as a one-day workshop in late September. The Youth Allies program will mirror the values at the heart of Allies in Community® — building relationships, fostering belonging, and promoting inclusiveness and civic engagement within the community — but will be presented it in a manner and environment unique to the experiences and guidance lived by Coppell’s youth.

“Allies in Community launched in 2018 after several years of planning, and there has always been a call for youth programming,” said City of Coppell Allyship Specialist Laci McKinney. “This pilot program will allow us to provide a youth offering while giving us the opportunity to evaluate the response and adjust the content for the future if needed.”

The one-day workshop will be from 10 am – 4 pm, Saturday, September 24, at Cozby Library and Community Commons and will feature fun, highly interactive content designed to help youth connect with each other, build self-awareness and gain new skills. About 40 participants will be selected via an application that encourages candidates to speak from the heart about how they relate to the mission and traits of Youth Allies® and why they want to be a part of the program.

Those interested in participating must be in grades 9 – 12 and either residing in Coppell or enrolled in Coppell ISD. Youth Allies® is broadly inclusive and seeks youth from all backgrounds, cultures, economic statuses, social circles, and levels of academic and athletic achievement who demonstrate the qualities of compassion, empathy and service. There is no GPA requirement and Youth Allies® cannot be used to complete service or school credit hours. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, September 6.
