[ARCHIVED] City of Coppell Seeks Youth Advisors for the Parks and Recreation Board

Four board members taking oath with text reading "Get involved! Join a board or commission!"

The City of Coppell is currently seeking 7th to 11th grade students who live in Coppell and attend Coppell Independent School District (CISD) to serve as youth advisors on the Parks and Recreation Board. Applications will be accepted online at coppelltx.gov/boards through October 20.

Being a youth advisor on a City board is a great opportunity for students who live in Coppell and attend CISD to not just get involved in the local community, but also gain real world experience that can be used in college and beyond. Youth advisors take on a role of responsibility and volunteer time towards creating a better community while imparting a unique perspective on City initiatives. Youth advisor positions are not ceremonial in nature; appointees will perform a valuable service and are expected to maintain regular attendance at meetings.

For students interested in keeping the City’s parks beautiful, planning for future park and recreation projects, and generating ideas for special events, the Parks and Recreation board is the perfect place to have an impact and provide valuable input that will benefit the Coppell community for generations to come.

Youth advisors serve on three of the City’s boards and commissions: the Smart City Board, which evaluates the needs of the community through future-thinking; the Library Board, which helps the Cozby Library make informed decisions regarding services and programs; and the Parks and Recreation Board, which advises not just the Community Experiences Department, but also Coppell’s City Council regarding the development of park and recreational facilities.

The selection process is competitive, and, while the City is currently seeking youth advisor applications for only the Parks and Recreation board, interested students are encouraged to apply for all youth advisor opportunities when they become available next fall.

Interested students should visit coppelltx.gov/boards for more information or to apply. Applications close October 20.
