[ARCHIVED] Neighbors Helping Neighbors Sees Record Turnout and Projects Completed

The City of Coppell is proud to have continued the Coppell Connects: Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative this year. Building on the successful launch in 2022, this year’s event hosted more than 150 volunteers and included projects at more than 40 sites across the City.

Coppell Connects: Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a community-focused day of service that enables volunteers to form relationships with their neighbors and build a stronger community through home maintenance and repairs. Mark Smits, lead volunteer and longtime Coppell resident, approached the City last year with a desire to create this event, and the City is thankful to have him as the lead volunteer this year. Breakfast was graciously provided by the Coppell Baha’l faith community, and volunteers accumulated more than 600 hours of volunteer work.

“Neighbors Helping Neighbors allows us to come together as a community to help those that need some help,” said Coppell Mayor Wes Mays. “It also allows us to get to know our neighbors, meet others in town, and it’s a wonderful gathering opportunity for our community.”

For residents, this day presents as an opportunity to meet people from all over the city, make new friends, and help neighbors with painting, yardwork, and everything in between.

“It’s a very fun experience,” Whitney Monroe, a volunteer at this year’s event, commented. “I think you should absolutely volunteer for this in the future, it’s a great way to give back to the community.”
