The City and its departments host a variety of family-friendly events each month from festivals and concerts to storytimes and workshops. Visit the City of Coppell’s online calendar for a list of this month’s offerings. 


EcoExplorer

May 2 - 30  |  9 am – Noon Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday   |   Biodiversity Education Center

Drop in during visiting hours every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to learn about the Biodiversity Education Center, Coppell Nature Park, and the seasonal programs offered. While you’re there, learn about the local environment through self-guided activities and interactive resources. Then, take what you learn out on the trails to become true EcoExplorers! Themes last two weeks and will be posted on the BEC Facebook page.


Screen-Free Week

May 1 – 7  |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

The Cozby Library and Community Commons will join thousands of schools, libraries, and community groups nationwide in a coordinated effort designed to help children turn off screens in order to connect with family, friends, nature, and their own creativity. Visit the library during Screen Free Week and collect a bingo card! Return the bingo card with five activities marked in a row to the library by May 14 for a chance to win a free pass to the CORE.

 

Coppell Historical Society – Kirkland House Tours

May 3 - 6  |   Wednesday – Friday 11 am – 5 pm and Saturday 10 am – 1 pm | Kirkland House

Built in 1904, the family home of John M. And Edna Jeanette Kirkland and their children Hubert, Lois, Sallie, Jewel (Jack), Stringfellow, Louise, Carroll, and one who died in infancy. It was moved from its original location 474 feet due west and restored in 2011 by The Jean and Price Daniel Foundation, the Coppell Historical Society, and the City of Coppell.

 

Saturday Make & Take Crafts

May 6  |  9 am  |  Coppell Arts Center – The Mr. Copper Group Lobby Gallery

How about a fun, creative start to your weekend? Bring your family to the Coppell Arts Center located in Old Town Coppell one Saturday each month for free make-and-take craft workshops. Stop by anytime between 9 am - noon to create your craft. Kids will receive a do-it-yourself craft kit that they can assemble and customize at art stations inside the Coppell Arts Center. A parent must accompany all children at all times.

 

Coppell Community Orchestra Presents Muse – A Concert Inspired by Art & Artists

May 7 | 3 pm | Coppell Arts Center

Join us for a unique concert where Inspiration and imagination is key! Enjoy music inspired by art & artists in addition to art inspired by music. This concert will be both entertaining and educational. Tickets are available online

 

Metrocrest Community Job Fair

May 10  |   3 - 6 pm   |   Carrolton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake

Metrocrest Services is working to bring together employer and employee in the annual Metrocrest Community Job Fair, sponsored by Dallas College. A variety of local businesses will be available for you to meet and network with. If you have difficulty securing stable and gainful employment at a livable wage due to criminal background challenges, FreshStart Employment Program will be in attendance to discuss employment opportunities with you. Register online.

Nature's Workshop - Rattlesnake Craft

May 10 | 10 - 11 am | Biodiversity Education Center

Expand your passion for learning about nature by creating a craft. Join the BEC for a mini educational lesson and create a craft together to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and registration is required for each participant. For ages 6 - 8.

 

Exploring Nature Series - Amphibians & Reptiles

May 11 | 9 am – Noon | Biodiversity Education Center

This program combines engaging classroom training with inspiring field-based discovery within Coppell Nature Park to help young people develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of Texas’ ecosystems. Through hands-on exploration and outdoor adventures, students will gain the knowledge and skills to become a lover of nature and responsible steward of the environment. Participants are asked to bring a water bottle and wear appropriate outdoor clothing including close-toed shoes that can get wet. Space is limited and registration is required for each participant. For ages 9 - 12.

 

Four Day Weekend

May 11 | 7 pm | Coppell Arts Center

Join the comedians named “Best Entertainment Experience in Texas” for an award-winning show built around audience suggestions and participation.  Four Day Weekend will fill your evening with side-splitting laughter and a comedy experience to remember. It’s never the same show twice! Come back next month for an all-new show with new improvised material! Tickets are $25. 

 

Birding 101

May 13 | 10 am – Noon | Biodiversity Education Center

Join Reba Collins, Master Birder and Texas Master Naturalist, for an informative lesson about birds and bird watching, just in time for spring migration. She will answer your questions about getting started, binoculars, and using technology and apps. The program will include a hike to begin honing your skills to identify our beautiful birds. Registration is required for each participant. For ages 16+.

 

The Coppell Community Chorale Presents: Sweet Dreams

May 13 & 14 | 7 pm & 3 pm | Coppell Arts Center

A dream is a wish your heart makes, whether you’re awake or asleep. Some dreams are wonderful, some dreams are not, some dreams are easy to achieve, and some take a lot of work. The Coppell Community Chorale invites you to come along as they explore dreams of every kind. Tickets are $13

 

May Paint & Sip: Flowering Magnolia

May 17  |   6 pm   |   Coppell Arts Center – Reception Hall

Who could use a night out with friends right now? Paint & Sips are a fun way to create memories and masterpieces. Please bring your friends or significant other to wine up and then wind down during one of the two-hour painting classes. Tickets are $30 per person.

Bookmark Contest

May 20 – June 30  |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

Let’s see your bookmark designs! Pick up a form at the library to create an original design and return it to the library by June 30. The winning bookmarks will be printed and distributed at the library. For ages 5 – 18+.

 

Coppell Children’s Chorus Presents: Encore!

May 20 | 11 am | Coppell Arts Center

Join the Children’s Chorus as they celebrate their year with the annual Encore! The show will feature favorite songs from throughout the year. This concert is FREE and the final show of the year.

 

Spring Gala Presented by Ballet Academy of Texas

Budding Curiosity - Paper Chain Snake

Join the BEC for an education program that builds on a sense of wonder, inviting youth to explore nature and the world around them. Through activities and crafts, this program reinforces a foundation for developing positive impressions about nature. Adults are encouraged to actively participate with their children and enjoy learning together. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and registration is required for each participant. For ages 3 - 5.

 

Defenders of Freedom - 18th Annual Golf Outing

May 22  |   11 am   |   The Clubs at the Tribute – The Colony

Defenders of Freedom has been serving post 9/11 Veterans since 2004. Partnering with Resiliency Brain Health in Coppell, our comprehensive program is changing the lives of Veterans. They are leading the way in how to treat traumatic brain injuries. Thanks to the generosity of their donors, they are saving the lives of the men and women injured in their service to our nation. Join them for their biggest event of the year, a two-course event with sponsors, donors, and Veterans. They provide a unique opportunity for the Veterans they serve to share their story with those who have funded or will fund future treatments for TBI while enjoying a great day of golf! FCNP Wednesday Guided Hikes

May 24  |   6 - 7 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center – Coppell Nature Park

Join the Friends of Coppell Nature Park for a guided hike to discover the wonders of our local ecosystem.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hikers are asked to wear protective clothing and bring a water bottle. This program is hosted by the Friends of Coppell Nature Park FREE of charge. Registration is required. Open to all ages.

The Korean Traditional Dance Association Presents: 명무 (Myeongmu)

May 28 | 6 pm | Coppell Arts Center

Korean Traditional Dance is a reflection of Korean people’s lives and emotions. The dancer’s movements are weeping willow tree branch alike, without artificial or structured movements. The dancers release various experiences of joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure, and the audience can assimilate into those experiences through the movement of the dancer. Ticket prices varies

Theatre Coppell - Superhero Adventures! Workshop I

June 19 - 23  |  9 am – Noon  |  Wheelice Wilson, Jr. Theatre – Coppell Arts Center

Aspiring young thespians will take part in exciting activities in performance of scenes, costumes, make-up techniques, stage movement, and auditioning tips – all taught by actors and technicians who have practical knowledge and experience in the theatre arts. The workshop fee is only $150 per child. All materials are provided, including a mid-session snack and a workshop T-shirt. Parents and friends are invited to watch the “wrap-up performance” on the last day. For children in 1st – 3rd grades.
