Boards & Commissions

City boards, commissions, committees, and temporary task forces or ad hoc groups serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council. These groups act as the voice of the residents of the City of Coppell. All board meetings are posted online and open to the public for citizens to attend.

Membership on each board requires at least 12 months of residency and to be a registered voter of the City of Coppell. Some boards may have additional requirements specified in the Code of Ordinances. All board members are appointed by the City Council to serve 2-year terms unless specified.

Applications are accepted during the annual recruitment beginning in September through October of every year. Followed by interviews in October. Appointments are approved by a motion during a regularly scheduled City Council meeting in November. During orientation, oaths are taken by the newly appointed members.

Becoming an Appointed Official

After appointments are completed by the City Council, The City Secretary's Office will host an orientation. During orientation newly appointed and reappointed board members will be sworn-in and complete the necessary paperwork for their term. All board members must have on file with the City Secretary:

  • Statement and Oath of Office
  • Public Access Form and Ethics Pledge
  • OMA and PIA Certificates

Attendance

If a board member is absent for three scheduled meetings, or if a board member is absent for 25 percent of the scheduled meetings within a 12-month period this may be grounds for removal.

*This online training is required and provided by the State of Texas. All certificates of completion should be forwarded to the City Secretary's Office.
