S Belt Line Reconstruction
The S Belt Line reconstruction project is officially underway! The project, which runs from Southwestern to IH-635, includes pavement replacement, intersection improvements, sidewalks, streetlights, and more to get this 35+ year old road back into tip top shape. It is estimated that construction will be complete in early 2023. View the interactive construction project map.
The City of Coppell has partnered with Texas A&M Transportation Institute to communicate real-time travel information to an easy-to-follow Twitter account. Additionally, the City will use road signage and other official channels to communicate updates.
Lane Closures Ahead
Construction is expected to begin in mid-October 2021, with various lane closures for the first 3-4 weeks.
Phase 1: Beginning in mid-November, the northbound lanes (east side) will be closed. All traffic will be diverted to the southbound lanes (west side), allowing for one lane of traffic flow in each direction.
Phase 2: Upon completion of Phase 1, traffic will be diverted to the northbound lanes (east side), allowing for one lane of traffic flow in each direction. The southbound lanes (west side) will be closed.
Truck traffic should use Freeport Parkway or Olympus/635.
A design contract for the reconstruction of S Belt Line Road from Denton Tap Road to I-635 was awarded to Halff Associates, Inc. in the Spring of 2019. The scope of the S Belt Line reconstruction project includes the following elements:
- Replacement of all existing pavement
- Intersection enhancements to improve mobility and safety
- Sidewalks, streetlights and landscaping
- Strategic replacement/rehabilitation of the existing storm sewer system
- Signal work as needed to accommodate intersection changes and/or traffic control
- Replace portions of the water and sanitary sewer as well as rehabilitating manholes
The approximate $18.6 million project is funded through bond proceeds and is expected to take 16 months to complete.
The Coppell City Council approved a contract with McMahon Contracting for the project. McMahon has performed several projects for the City and has a proven track record. They served as contractor for the Airline Drive reconstruction project, which is expected to be completed early!
